Associates typically join Mercator Partners after earning their undergraduate degrees. They tend to have graduated in an ICT related subject or, if not, are able to demonstrate a keen level of interest and understanding in the sector.

While working on projects, Associates are presented with problems and are expected to use creative techniques to solve them; typically employing tools such as financial, customer, competitor and market analysis. They are a key part of the team and make a critical contribution to addressing our clients’ challenges.

They are exposed to a broad range of clients and projects within the ICT sectors which helps them master the basic tools and techniques of strategy consulting and hone their client-management skills. The best way to learn how to become a strategy consultant is to be given a problem, a set of tools and to get on with the job.

The role has ample room for growth and development. As Associates become stronger contributors to their teams, they gain greater responsibilities and more client contact.

Most Associates typically take about two years to master the challenges of the role, after which they are promoted to consultant.
