MERCATOR PARTNERS ANNOUNCES TWO PARTNERS TO JOIN THE BOSTON OFFICE

Mercator Partners has announced the addition of one new partner and the promotion of a partner.

The new partners include a longtime Mercator Consultant, Moe Kelley, as well as a recent addition, Tony Abate.

Moe Kelley brings 14 years of professional experience in strategy, finance and project management, with most of this focused on the converging worlds of broadband and mobile. He has led engagements for senior executives at technology businesses across the US, Europe, and Asia; working for service providers, device makers, and infrastructure vendors. His clients include major players and investors such as Sony Ericsson, XM Satellite Radio, Comcast, Sprint-Nextel, Motorola, Mitsubishi Electric, Adelphia Communications, Bechtel Telecom, Lucent, Virgin Mobile, the State of Michigan, KKR, Berkshire Partners, and American Capital.

Moe has specific expertise in strategy development, innovation management, strategic due diligence, latent demand analysis, service provider economics, broadband and wireless network technologies, mobile devices, cable set top boxes, mobile wallet, fixed-mobile convergence, and needs-based market segmentation. A hallmark of Moe’s consulting work across these areas is a hypothesis-driven, fact-based approach to business problem solving.

Prior to joining Mercator Partners, Moe worked with Global Crossing, MediaOne, Continental Cable, and Harvard University. He has an MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia.

Tony Abate brings over 20 years of experience in the technology, new-media and IT services fields. His primary area of expertise is combining emerging technologies with a differentiated business model to deliver converged communications, information and media services to consumers and businesses. He has advised leading publicly traded companies on how to profitably exploit the technological thrusts of digitization and the ensuing business revolution of convergence. Tony also served on the board of several nascent venture backed start-ups creating entirely new markets from this digital revolution.

Before joining Mercator Partners, Tony was General Partner at Battery Ventures, a premier venture capital firm he joined in 1999. Prior to Battery, he was a Vice President at Whitney & Co; and an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company. Before business school, Tony was an officer in the US Air Force. As an investor, Tony built several successful companies in the technology, new-media and IT services sectors including Homestore (IPO in 2000); Usinternetworking (IPO in 1999); NBX (acquired by 3Com); RelevantKnowledge (acquired by Media Metrix; IPO in 1999); Icon International (sold to Omnicom Group); Looking Glass Communications (sold to Level3); and Cbeyond Communications (IPO in 2006). As a consultant, Tony provided critical strategic advice to leading telecom, cable and Internet companies. This work focused on the technical and service delivery challenges of converged voice, data and video services for both fixed broadband and wireless providers.

Tony holds a BSE in Electrical Engineering from Duke University (summa cum laude) and an MBA from Harvard Business School with honors.
